A new year and a new start has begun. We will try to build on all our first term's work and continue to develop our skills and knowledge.
This month we will start a new novel called Skulduggery Pleasant The end of the world. It is written by Derek Landy. We will carry out a number of exercises based on this novel and we will try to study the plot and analyse the characters.
We will study the headlands of Ireland. We investigate what are headlands, their properties and how they are created. We will look at aerial photographs of Irish headlands to help us to appreciate the characteristics of headlands. We will examine the link between headlands and lighthouses. We will look at the history of Lighthouses and compare and contrast with modern lighthouses and discuss the role and importance of lighthouses in the past and today.
Our project this month will be to design our own lighthouse.
We are learning a song about Oisín and Niamh in Tír na nÓg.
We will be studying electricity and how to build a circuit. We will also learn the symbols that are used to create a circuit diagram. Click on the link below to complete the four modules relating to electricity and building circuits.
Finally at the start of the school year we learned about the waterfalls of the world in our reader Let's Go. We looked at videos on youtube of Niagara falls. Last week Niagara froze and the photographs of the frozen falls are spectacular. Click on the link below to view them.
We are going to create 3d snow flakes from paper. It is tricky and requires concentration.
Have a look at the video below it is a great step by step guide to how to create one.
Hot chocolate is such a treat. We wrote a story about the joy and thrill of getting a warm creamy hot chocolate in school. Sometimes dreams do come true because we did actually get hot chocolate in school complete with cream, chocolate shavings and marshmallows. Take a look at the photo page our smiles say it all!!!!
We read a story about Tom Crean in our Let's Go reader. It tells us the story of his 18 hour march in blizzard conditions in Antarctica to help his sick comrade. Tom Crean's story is fascinating he took part in three expeditions to Antarctica and received two medals of honour.
